Beautiful gifts from afar
My sister-in-law recently returned to Sydney after living the dream… working and living in Paris, discovering the French countryside, and with side trips to Morocco, London, and Croatia, to name but a few.
Jealousy aside, she did bring back some rather lovely gifts for our family. These beautiful linen cushion covers from Maison Georgette in Paris are the perfect addition to my little boys’ rooms. Neutral colours with a cute print make them oh so stylish, while being fun and playful enough to spark a child’s imagination.
Maison Georgette creates limited edition silk screened home furnishing accessories in their Le Bastille workshop. Marion Lévy and Veronique Georgelin, the designers of Maison Georgette, list Finish and Scandinavian textile design of the 70s and 80s, and Marimekko in particular, as their design inspiration. I’m so inspired I think a trip to Paris is in order…
For the oyster-lover in our household came these vue sur mer (translation “sea view”) oyster forks from the French seaside town of St Malo. How cute is the charcoal felt packaging and the devil’s head shape of these spoons? Time to serve up a dozen of the best Sydney rock oysters and crack open a bottle of bubbly…
Also in St Malo, my wonderful sister-in-law found these very cool placemats made from old sails. These will look fantastic in my beach house… I tell myself that if I just keep wishing, that dream will eventually become a reality.
And for me, these beautiful leather slippers from the artisan markets in Marrakesh, Morocco. I love the detail in the beading work; it reminds me of fairy bread, or sprinkles on a cupcake. It works perfectly in combination with that vibrant sky blue leather.
They are super soft and comfy. Time to ditch the ugg boots for some glamour, Moroccan style.
