… and all that Jazz
At the foot of the Blue Mountains, in Glenbrook Village is the Jazz Apple Kitchen, an excellent meeting point for far flung friends. If you live in the upper mountains but your nearest and dearest are located in Sydney, this café is just the ‘tonic’ that only face-to-face contact can bring. On the other hand, you could always stop in for dinner on your way home after a big day out, or a late coffee and sugar fix before finishing your journey home.
This café has a retro feel that provokes nostalgic memories of cafes from a time not-too-long gone, aided on this particular day by a soundtrack of French bossa nova style cover songs from the 80’s. The girls of the Jazz Apple will make you feel welcome; providing friendly service with affordable, great quality food that has many gluten free friendly options.
The Jazz Apple has my favourite menu phrase, “Breakfast all day”, so you can always enjoy your first meal of the day or weekend and, to this end try the Jazz Breakfast with garlic mushrooms, goat’s feta, tomato pesto and wilted spinach on rye sourdough. Beyond breakfast other favourites include: the bruschetta of goats cheese, pear and roquette with a balsamic glaze; a rich beef and mushroom pot pie; and the corn fritters which provide a new spin on a dish my mum used to make.
‘Keeping it local’, the Jazz Apple Kitchen is a champion to all things hand made and independent with their coffee supplied by the Blue Mountains Roasters, the perfect accompaniment to their selection of delicious homemade cakes and slices.
The Jazz Apple Kitchen is open from 9am to 10pm Tuesday to Saturday and till 5pm on Sunday and Monday. Due to its popularity it is recommended to book for dinner. Also, booths and tables fit four easily so best for cosy catch-ups not large groups.
A little bit of Newtown at the bottom of the mountain for your visiting friends. It won’t disappoint.
